Coleman is cutting back on their payroll costs through a series of layoffs at two different plants. In Wichita, KS, 142 employees, most of whom assemble propane products, will be furloughed and 181 sleeping bag manufacturing employees will be cut at the Lake City, SC plant.
Coleman spokesman Mark Baker told a local paper that the company is moving the production and assembly work to unspecified locations, and would not comment on whether or not the work was being moved overseas.
According to the company, the layoffs are intended to create “operational flexibility” and help the company compete.
