Golf rounds played declined 2.2 percent in May 2016 compared to May 2015, according to Golf Datatech. On a year-to-date basis, rounds played are still up 1.8 percent.
Public access play during May was down 1.5 percent and private course activity was off 4.9 percent.
By region, declines in the month were seen in New England, down 7.1 percent, Mid Atlantic, 10.9 percent; East North Central, 3.1 percent; Pacific, 0.3 percent; and South Atlantic, 8.0 percent. Gains were seen Mountain, 11.7 percent; South Central 4.8 percent, and West North Central, 3.8 percent.
