Dennis Madsen, president and CEO of Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) has been named to the national board of directors of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that advocates for uniting communities and improving health by creating a nationwide network of public trails.
Madsen, an avid bicyclist and outdoor enthusiast, is recognized as a strong supporter of REI's philanthropic and community relations programs that promote environmental stewardship, conservation and outdoor recreation with an emphasis on youth outreach and volunteerism.
“The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy plays an important role in protecting the 12,500-mile network of rail-trails throughout the country, and making sure they're accessible and respected by all,” said Madsen. “Its hard work is helping to build a lasting legacy for generations to come, and it's a privilege to help guide this effort.”
In addition to Madsen's RTC board position, he serves on the boards of the Bicycle Alliance of Washington, IslandWood and the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition, and is a member of the Washington Roundtable, a group of 40 Washington State chief executives working to create positive change through critical public policy issues.
RTC, a nonprofit organization with 100,000 members and supporters, is the nation's largest trails organization dedicated to connecting people and communities by creating a nationwide network of public trails, many from former rail lines and connecting corridors.
