WSS, the footwear retailer, donated $3,000 to each of the 27 Los Angeles County Alliance for Boys & Girls Clubs as part of the larger $250,000 donation announced in May.
The donation was presented to the Antelope Valley Boys and Girls Club Club on July 16 at The AV Boys & Girls Club at the Hammack Activity Center. This partnership is bigger than the check as WSS employees will be involved in many facets of the Clubs growth and resources.
WSS will be partnering with the AV Boys & Girls Club by:
· Providing the opportunity for employees to volunteer at the Club
· Work with the youth on career readiness help members create resumes, learn how to interview and have an opportunity to apply to work at WSS
· Mentoring kids by employees
· Provide opportunities for youth to learn about the retail industry by the experts (the employees!)
· Tour the stores and learn about the shoe industry
· WSS employees will appear on Career Day panels with the Clubs
“I can’t express the caring we have at WSS for our neighborhoods and communities and the respect we have for the work that the Boys & Girls Clubs are doing,” said WSS CEO/President Mark Archer. “Los Angeles has been very good to us and we want to thank you by supporting and inspiring future community leaders and investing in the Los Angeles County youth.”
WSS’ donation will support Club programs that help youth build character, live a healthy lifestyle and achieve academic success. Each WSS store has been paired with a local Boys & Girls Club where WSS volunteers will have opportunities to work with Club members to support their activities through events, games, tutoring and special programs. Each Boys & Girls Club will also receive WSS gift cards that will be used to incentivize and reward youth for academic improvement and excellence.
“We are so proud and thankful to have WSS on board by supporting so many deserving LA youth, this is truly a comprehensive partnership that will help our kids on so many levels”, says Jay Duke, Club CPO.
