Cascade Designs will move 100 jobs to a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Reno, NV beginning later this year in a bid to accommodate growth at lower costs, the company confirmed Thursday.
The facility, which is expected to open in August, will handle all distribution for Cascade Design's brands, which include MSR, Therm-a-Rest, SealLine, Platypus and four other brands. The company has given affected employees six to 10 months to decide whether to relocate to Reno, but is only offering to pay relocation expenses to a handful of management employees.
“We ran out of space in our Seattle facility quite a while ago and have been leasing space around Seattle to store product and it’s gotten to a point where it's no longer feasible,” Cascade Designs spokesman Martin Masonpierre told The B.O.S.S. Report Thursday.
When the Seattle City Council voted last summer to phase in a $15 an hour minimum wage beginning April 1, 2015, the company accelerated its search for new manufacturing and distribution space.
The bulk of Cascade Design's 300 to 350 employees will continue to work at its headquarters south of downtown Seattle.
