The Energy and Natural Resources Committee of the U.S. Senate voted 19 to 3 to recommend the full Senate approve Sally Jewell as the next Secretary of the Interior. The nomination now goes to the full Senate for its consideration.
Sally Jewell understands the importance of balancing the nations natural resources is not an ‘either-or choice, said Frank Hugelmeyer, president and CEO of Outdoor Industry Association, in commending the decision Thursday. She gets that it is possible to support the economy and create jobs in a balanced and holistic manner.
Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, added, “An avid outdoorswoman herself, Jewell will continue to work on behalf of our countrys unparalleled collection of national parks, land reserves, and other wilderness areas. She is well-versed on the impact of outdoor recreation on the U.S. economy as well as the intricate connections between the travel and outdoor industries.
As our nation gears up for the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service in 2016, U.S. Travel celebrates the fitting choice of Sally Jewell for Interior Secretary.
