The Salomon Rock/Creek Trail Series kicks off registration on Jan. 1, 2013 at 3 AM Eastern. Trail runners from across the country are expected to fill this year’s races very quickly. Several of the races sold out last year, and to encourage healthy New Year’s resolutions this year, the race organizers have decided to open all races (except for the cult classic Upchuck 50k, which opens in September) on New Year’s Day.
The Chattanooga Mountains Stage Race is expected to fill first, followed by the 50 Mile race and the classic Rock/Creek StumpJump 50k.
Last year’s events drew 2,878 racers from nearly every state in the country as well as several international runners. As Whorton estimates it, “in 2012, nearly 3,000 racers burned around 6.5 Million calories.” All races take place in or around Chattanooga, TN, and are run through Wild Trails, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Rock/Creek to handle the proceeds from the series. Salomon, a leading trail running shoe and apparel manufacturer, is the title sponsor.
