Gildan Activewear plans to build a new yarn-spinning facility in Salisbury, SC. The opening is expected bring up to 170 jobs and more than $50 million in investments to the area, state officials said Wednesday.
The company plans to revamp a 400,000-square foot building on Heilig Road for the new facility, according to the Salisbury Post. The Rowan County site would be Gildans third facility in the state.
CanAm also operates a yarn-spinning facility in Bladen County, and Gildan also has a distribution center in Rockingham County.
The jobs were lured to Rowan, in part, by a state Job Development Investment Grant. Under the deal, Gildan could receive a grant of 65 percent of the state personal income withholding taxes generated by the new jobs for ten years if it meets its annual performance targets. That could mean a maximum of $1.55 million in benefits, officials said.
With North Carolina as a longtime leader in textiles, Gildan will easily find the skilled workforce they need, state Sen. Andrew Brock said in a news release.
