The National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) announces the appointment of Salvador Colom (Deportes Salvador Colom), Rhett Johnson (Johnson-Lambe Co.) and Cathy Pryor (Hibbett Sports) to its board of directors. Each of the new board members will serve three-year terms that began June 1, 2012.

According to Matt Carlson, NSGA’s President & CEO, “We are excited to welcome our three new Board members, and are looking forward to their expertise in enhancing our efforts to move the association forward. Each of them brings unique experience to the Board and will play an integral role in our continued success.”

Salvador Colom is the owner of family-owned Deportes Salvador Colom, a team dealer located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The company, which was started by his father in 1951, employs 30 and is the top team dealer in Puerto Rico today.

Colom said, “Serving on the NSGA board is a great honor. Our company has been in business for 61 years of which I have worked 44 years. During these years I have seen many changes in the industry and we have enjoyed the growth of the sports activities and our business. I think that by being part of the NSGA board I am giving something back to the industry which has been very good to us.”

Rhett Johnson is the president of Johnson-Lambe Co., a team dealer based in Raleigh, North Carolina that was established in 1935. Johnson serves as a partner in the third generation family business with his brother, Josh, and the company employs 21.

About his election, he said, “Achieving success and profitability in today's world requires access to all avenues of information. The NSGA has been, and continues to be, a key to these avenues in the sporting goods industry. I am honored and look forward to joining the NSGA board.”

Cathy Pryor is Hibbett Sports’ Senior Vice President of Store Operations, where she is responsible for overseeing all stores, directing Regional and District Sales Managers, Retail Education and Store Communication. She has been with the company for 23 years serving in various operations and management roles. Prior to Hibbett, she served as a District Manager at Champs Sports.

About her election, Pryor stated, “I am honored to be asked to be on the board of the NSGA. I have been involved in the industry for 25 years and have been attending the NSGA functions for at least 20 of those years. I have seen many changes take place in the industry over the years and feel the NSGA meetings, services and information provided to retailers is of much benefit. The NSGA continues to provide an open dialogue for us to engage with other retailers and vendors and provides a forum to gain new ideas that assists us in growing our business.”

In addition to these two new members, NSGA’s Board has elected new leadership, who will serve as the Board’s Executive Committee through 2014.
