Cycling Sports Group (CSG) is establishing an operation in China to sell Cannondale and GT brands directly in the market beginning in July 2012.

A unit of the Leisure/Recreation segment at Dorel Industries Inc., CSG Asia has experienced solid growth in the past three years with more than 19 new additional distribution channels opened in the region.

“We’re thrilled about the expansion of Cycling Sports Group in China,” said Mario Stein, senior vice president Asia Pacific and emerging markets for CSG, which distributes through independent bicycle dealers, or IBDs. “The market in China is extensive and represents a strong opportunity for our brands. ”

Edward Vlutters, sales director Asia Pacific, Cycling Sports Group, will be on the ground in China to lead the effort. “China is probably the biggest untapped region in the world for our company. The sports bicycle market has been growing in the country over the last few years, and we are excited to make our brands and products available,” said Vlutters.

The Cannondale and GT brands will both be launched in the premium segment of the Chinese bicycle market. Retailers in China are excited to see Cannondale back and are eager to explore GT in their markets.

“We are happy to see Cannondale come to China. We have been waiting for this, and also feel that GT could play a big role in bringing BMX to the Chinese people, as GT is number one on the planet for BMX racing,” said Miss Feng at Cycle Station bike shop.

Due to this expansion, Cycling Sports Group will be hiring three individuals for the Shanghai office. The company will advertise at the upcoming Shanghai show and have a meeting room available to meet with potential dealers. Potential dealers can contact karen.lo@dorelchina.com for an appointment.
