Ortovox, the maker of avalanche beacons, has partnered with Smith Sport Optics to promote avalanche safety. Ortovox will be the Official Avalanche Safety Equipment Supplier for the Prospecting Idaho backcountry playground.
Ortovox will supply the staff, athletes and a few lucky winners with beacons, packs, shovels and probes for the 2011-12 season and 2012-13 video series on www.smithoptics.com.
“We’re very excited to be partnering with Smith on this project,” said Marcus Petersen, CEO of Ortovox USA. “Smith’s reach and influence within the snow and action sports communities is unparalleled. We’re incredibly pleased that they understand the importance of safe avalanche practices in the backcountry, and want to promote it, within the context of having fun and pushing limits.”
As part of the partnership, consumers will be able to upload pictures to www.smithoptics.com for their chance to win one of 10 beacon/pack/shovel/probe kits from Ortovox and a clinic from a local avalanche education center.
“If you want to go big, you’d better be prepared,” said Cory Smith, senior promotions manager for Smith Optics. “At Prospecting Idaho we encourage our athletes and go bigger, but we also promote user responsibility and safe backcountry use. People see the fun and excitement of playing in the backcountry, and we need to remind everyone that there are skills and equipment you need to have, if you want to keep coming back day after day.” Smith continued, “As the industry leader in avalanche safety equipment, Ortovox has the technology and experience to provide the best products for our athletes and staff.”
