The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will host a press availability on Thursday, June 2nd to highlight field sampling being conducted near Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in Elk Grove, California as part of the National Wetlands Conditions Assessment.
The Agency says approximately 95 percent of historic wetlands and riparian habitats in California have been destroyed or modified. The NWCA is an assessment of wetland condition being performed in every state for the first time ever. More than 1,000 sites across the country are being tested for a variety of indicators of wetland health, including vegetation, soils, water quality, algae, and hydrology.
