Gander Mountain reported a 10.6% increase in comparable store sales for the months of November and December. November sales increased by 9.8%, while December sales saw a gain of 11.1%.
Key categories contributing to the sales increase included hunting equipment, footwear and ice fishing gear. The increase was consistent across all 57 stores.
“Our customers have clearly responded to our merchandise mix,” said Mark Baker, Gander Mountain chief executive officer. “We believe a number of factors contributed to our strong performance, including a greater focus on value, the strength of our associates, more aggressive in-store merchandising, and cooler temperatures across much of the Midwest. This is a very positive end to a satisfying year, and sets the stage for a solid year of performance in 2003.”
