Nordstrom announced that it plans to close two Nordstrom stores in late August of this year — one in Santa Monica, CA, at Santa Monica Place, as well as its St. Louis, MO, location at the Saint Louis Galleria, a shopping mall in the Richmond Heights area.

“We believe we’ll be best able to serve customers in each region by leveraging our surrounding stores and through our digital channels,” Nordstrom said in a media statement. “Decisions like this are never easy, and we understand the impact they have on our team members. We’re committed to taking care of our employees through this transition, including supporting those who are interested in finding another role within Nordstrom.”

Several competitors, including Macy’s, Kohl’s and JCPenney, have recently announced store closings.

Nordstrom opened the Santa Monica store in 2010 and the Gallera location in 2011.

Nordstrom went private in May this year after being acquired by members of the family and El Puerto de Liverpool, a Mexican real estate and department store company.
