Freebird, the boot retailer based in Denver, CO, has reportedly exited its corporate headquarters in the Cherry Creek section of the city, laid off staff and is closing at least 14 of its 20 stores as it seeks a buyer, according to a report from The Denver Post.
Freebird has been under the control of a court-appointed caretaker, the turnaround firm Ampleo, since being sued by KeyBank in May 2025 for allegedly failing to repay $15.4 million and continues to face a liquidity crisis, according to the report.
The report stated that Freebird would close another four stores on Monday, June 23, failing to find a buyer.
