Boyd Cycling is ramping up U.S. production of its carbon fiber and alloy rims in a move that has reportedly been “years in the making” and strategically planned ahead of the newly imposed tariffs on Chinese imports.
The Greenville, SC-based maker of performance bicycle wheels said the goal of bringing production and jobs to the U.S. “positions Boyd Cycling as a key domestic supplier for cycling brands seeking high-quality, competitively priced alternatives.”
“Boyd Johnson, co-founder of Boyd Cycling, has been a steadfast advocate for strengthening U.S. manufacturing within the cycling industry,” the company said in a media release.
In 2022, Boyd Cycling established Olive Manufacturing Group, laying the groundwork for U.S.-based aluminum rim production, which launched in 2023. Building on this momentum, Boyd expanded its efforts in 2024 by acquiring Munich Composites, a German carbon rim manufacturer, further strengthening Boyd Cycling’s global footprint.
In 2025, the brand will introduce new products at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA, underscoring the company’s “commitment to quality, innovation and U.S. manufacturing excellence.”
“Our goal is to provide a competitive solution to cycling brands for high-performance, domestically produced carbon fiber and aluminum rims at very competitive pricing compared to landed cost pricing from Asia,” said Johnson in a statement.
The company said the new U.S.-manufactured carbon fiber rims will offer a cost-effective alternative to overseas production, providing cycling brands more flexibility and faster turnaround times.
