The Microfibre Consortium (TMC), the Bristol, England-based non-profit working towards zero impact from fiber fragmentation from textiles to the natural environment, made a series of organizational changes to support moving from establishing the topic foundations to supporting the industry in delivering impact solutions.
Research director Dr. Kelly Sheridan, who is also an Assistant Professor in Forensic Science (Textile Fibers) at Northumbria University, will reportedly step into the CEO chair. At the same time, Founding Director Sophie Mather will transition from the Board of Directors to an advisory role, supporting the “continuity of the topic and the organization.”
“Everyone at The Microfibre Consortium is hugely grateful to Sophie for her pioneering work and the leadership that she has provided during the topic’s formative years,” Sheridan commented in a LinkedIn post on TMC’s page.
“Her vision, strategy and energy have played pivotal roles in setting the topic agenda, convening the global fashion and textile sector, and laying the foundations for the consortium, which celebrates 5 years this month,” she continued. “I am honored to continue the legacy set by Sophie and looking forward to working with the team and our external partners to deepen our understanding of fibre fragmentation and establish and promote the clear, substantive actions that the textile industry can take to reduce fibre fragmentation and its impact on the environment.”
