Nike, Inc. recruited Muge Erdirik Dogan, a longtime fashion executive at Amazon, as chief technology officer.
Jenny Freshwater, most recently Amazon’s vice president of traffic and marketing technology, will replace Dogan as VP of Amazon Fashion & Fitness.
Dogan has worked at Amazon for 16 years, including as president of Amazon Fashion since February 2021. Other roles Dogan has had at Amazon include VP of WW Last Mile Delivery and Pick-up Business, Tech, Operations; director, technical advisor, Amazon NA Retail; GM/director, Beauty, Grooming and Personal Care; and GM, Baby and Baby Registry.
At Nike, Dogan is responsible for driving tech innovation, streamlining process and enhancing the company’s operations efficiencies.
“With Muge’s deep understanding of how technology can accelerate innovation, scale processes, increase efficiency, and ultimately drive growth, I’m confident her experience and leadership will help us capitalize on the opportunity ahead while keeping the athlete and consumer at the center,” Nike Chief Executive Officer John Donahoe said in an internal memo attained by Bloomberg.
Freshwater, who joined Amazon in 2010, also takes on responsibilities for the fitness category as VP of Amazon Fashion and Fitness. Her past roles at Amazon include VP of Traffic and Marketing Tech, VP of Forecasting and Capacity Planning, and Director of Software Development Demand Forecasting.
The company changes at Amazon follow its recent announcement that was shutting down its Amazon Style stores in California and Ohio. The tech-enabled locations, launched in 2022, relied heavily on touchscreens and QR codes, enabling customers to use the Amazon app to order products without leaving a fitting room.
