Recently, at the Annual Business Conference in St. Louis, MO, the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) Board of Directors voted Bill Miller from a standing board member to a two-year term to lead the organization.
The first year Miller will serve as president and the second year, subject to board approval, move to the role of chairman of the board.
Miller, a twenty-five plus year veteran in the outdoor media world, started in 1984 as the associate editor of North American Hunter magazine and the executive director of the North American Hunting Club.
Today, the club boasts 800,000 members and over 4.9 million readers see each issue of North American Hunter magazine. His 25 year tenure at the magazine and club's parent company, North American Media Group, propelled Miller to Vice President of Media Development and Production at North American Media Group in 2002, overseeing the production of twelve life-style based magazines. A familiar face on outdoor television, Miller has hosted NAMG's television series North American Hunter for 21 years.
Currently airing 32 weeks from May to December on Versus Television Network, NAH-TV is a top five show in the network's outdoor programming line up. While busy with all the responsibilities of magazines and many weeks of television filming, Miller has remained the consummate hunting professional and continues to enjoy his role as Executive Director of the North American Hunting Club.
POMA was formed in June of 2005 as an organization for outdoor writers, photographers, media executives as well as corporate partners to maintain the integrity and future of the traditional outdoor sports such as hunting, shooting, fishing and trapping.
“I've been involved with POMA since its inception,” shared Miller. “During the next two years I would ask the organization and board to develop a long term vision – answering the question – what will POMA's legacy be?”
Laurie Lee Dovey, Executive Director of POMA, thinks Miller will step seamlessly into the role of President. “Bill has an extremely detailed understanding of where communications are going in the 21st century,” shared Dovey. “His expertise and knowledge of new media fits with POMA's mission to focus on how journalists will communicate in the future.” POMA is a cutting edge organization providing information and education opportunities for its members, particularly on how to make changes in business during these challenging economic times.
