After a historic winter in 2023 that saw record-setting snowfall and Snow Valley joining the Big Bear Mountain Resort (BBMR) family, the company said it invested over $12 million across its three mountains, Snow Valley, Snow Summit, Bear Mountain, to “improve existing infrastructure, provide additional amenities and enhance the guest experience during the 2023/24 season.

The capital improvements include multiple base area renovations, on-hill upgrades and non-guest-facing facilities. Beyond BBMR, Big Bear Lake continues to draw outdoor enthusiasts with the addition of the Sessions Retreat & Hotel and the Noble + Proper cabins.

BBMR improvements to date include: 

Snow Valley

  • Installation of snowmaking equipment to increase capacity and improve efficiency;
  • Resurfaced parking lot, eliminating uneven surfaces and improving drainage;
  • Renovated locker rooms, repair and rental shops.
  • Installed two magic carpets and reconfigured existing ones to serve beginner and Sports School guests;
  • Chair 2 remodel and beginner area expansion improving accessibility and
  • Dining venue upgrades with additional outdoor seating.

Snow Summit

  • Renovated food service warehouse serving the three mountains;
  • Renovated SoCal Marketplace restrooms; and
  • Added new snowcats and snowmobiles to improve grooming and Patrol response times.

Bear Mountain

  • Completed renovation of Laybacks Bar to a full-service indoor/outdoor establishment;
  • Concluded multi-year expansion of Bear Mountain’s sun deck, including a 12,000-square-foot extension across the East end of the base area to the Adventure Academy with added seating, fire pits, patrol equipment, and USARC facility to improve ADA accessibility.
