Profits at The Buckle, Inc. declined 9 percent in the second quarter ended July 29 as sales sagged 3.2 percent. Net sales decreased to $292.4 million from $302.0 million a year ago. Comparable sales fell 3.3 percent. Online sales dropped 5.6 percent to $43.6 million compared to $46.2 million a year ago.
Net income was $45.6 million, or 92 cents per share, down from $50.1 million, or $1.02, in the prior-year period.
Net sales for the 26-week fiscal period decreased 5.9 percent to $575.3 million from $611.0 million for the prior year period. Comparable store sales fell 6.3 percent. Online sales were down 5.6 percent to $94.9 million from $100.6 million a year ago. Net income for the six months was $88.6 million, or $1.79 per share, down 15.9 percent from $105.4 million, or $2.14, a year ago.
