Bass Pro, Golf Galaxy, Puma, and L.L. Bean are among the active lifestyle retailers that Newsweek honored in its 2023 America’s Best Retailers report. The publication’s rankings represent an independent survey in collaboration with global market research and consumer data firm Statista, with over 140,000 consumer evaluations collected and tabulated.
Consumers evaluated retailers in 39 product categories to determine their best retailers. Survey participants rated retailers on whether they would recommend them to friends/family and how they would rate a retailer on price, selection and overall atmosphere. The number of honored retailers by category varied by eligible companies.
Bass Pro Shops topped the Camping & Outdoor Gear (Hunting, Fishing) category with a score of 90.47. The retailer was followed by the Top 5 honorees in the Camping & Outdoor Gear category by sister chain Cabela’s, scoring 89.74. REI came in at 89.48, Sportsman’s Warehouse at 86.55, and Sierra Trading Post 85.00.
Golf Galaxy topped the Sporting Goods/Equipment (Team sports, Golf, etc.) category with a score of 90.15, followed by Scheels, 89.79; Academy Sports + Outdoors, 87.10; PGA Tour Superstore, 86.28; and Hibbett Sports, 84.98.
In the Athletic Apparel category, the Top 5 honored by consumers were Puma, 87.53; Athleta, 87.39; Under Armour, 87.17; Nike, 87.13; and Lululemon Athletics, 86.77.
In the Outdoor Apparel category, the top honor went to L.L. Bean at 90.16; Orvis, 88.29; Patagonia, 88.14; The North Face, 88.08; and Duluth Trading Company at 87.59.
