The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) approved a rear guard repair for Peloton’s recalled Tread+ treadmill.
The CPSC said the approved rear guard repair for the Peloton Tread+ treadmill eliminates the potential for entrapment near the rear roller of the machine. The rear guard repair features a breakaway design that pivots away from the treadmill when in contact with a person or object, shutting off the power to the unit and decelerating the belt.
While Peloton manufactures the rear guard, consumers can register in advance for a Fall 2023 delivery. The rear guard and installation are free to consumers. Consumers are advised to register for the free rear guard repair online at onepeloton.com and click on “Product Recalls” at the bottom of the page or support.onepeloton.com/hc/en-us/articles/360060722012.
For questions concerning the recall, consumers can contact Peloton at 866.679.9129 from 6 am to 12 am EST, seven days a week. Consumers can also request a full refund until November 6, 2023, or a prorated refund after that date.
On May 5, 2021, the CPSC and Peloton announced a recall of 125,000 Peloton Tread+ treadmills following the death of a child and dozens of injuries. Adult users, children, pets, and objects could be pulled underneath the rear roller, posing a risk of injury or death. Since the May 2021 recall, there have been 279 additional reported incidents and 61 additional reports of injuries. In addition to the child’s death, Peloton has received 351 incident reports of pull-unders, including 90 reports of injuries to consumers.
