JD Sports Fashion Plc, the parent company of JD, Finish Line, DTLR, and Shoe Palace, appointed Angela Luger and Darren Shapland as non-executive directors, effective June 1. Lauger joins JD Sports Remuneration Committee and Shapland its Audit and Risk Committee also effective June 1.
Luger brings retail and non-executive director experience to the Board in digital commerce, digital transformation and marketing. She was recently appointed as a non-executive director of Jet2 Plc and acts as a non-executive director of New Look Retailers, Ltd, Portmeirion Group Plc, where she chairs the Nomination Committee, and SCS Group Plc as a senior independent director). Luger is the chair at Paint Traders, Ltd and WealthiHer Network. Luger has held non-executive roles at Distribuidora Internacional de Alimentacion S.A. and Manchester Airports Holding, Ltd. During her career, she has held positions at Cadbury’s, Coca Cola and Asda and has acted as managing director at Debenhams and CEO at The Original Factory Shop and N Brown Group Plc. Luger is a trustee of the Pennies Foundation.
Shapland has extensive experience in retail and consumer businesses over the past 35 years as an executive and non-executive director. Recently he has held various non-executive chair and audit chair roles in FTSE 250 and FTSE 100 businesses, including Poundland Plc, Ferguson Plc and Ladbrokes Plc. He is chair of Topps Tiles Plc and chair/director of privately owned companies. In his executive career, Shapland was CEO for Carpetright, having previously been CFO of various large retailers, including J Sainsbury Plc, Carpetright Plc, Superdrug (Kingfisher Plc), and divisions of The Burton Group Plc.
