NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. is suing Nike for refusing to pay him royalties and violating their contract, according to the Portland Business Journal.
Beckham, a free agent, has been under various Nike contracts since 2014 and seeks $20.6 million in damages, according to documents he filed on November 14 in the Oregon Circuit Court.
“Given the commercial success of the relationship between Mr. Beckham and Nike, Mr. Beckham sought to resolve this dispute amicably and to continue the relationship to no avail,” according to documents. “Instead of honoring its obligations, Nike doubled down and chose to wrongly withhold millions more in compensation from Mr. Beckham in an effort to pressure him to accede to Nike’s demands that he forego what he was promised. Mr. Beckham is thus forced to bring this lawsuit to make Nike live up to its promises.”
