Norrøna teamed up with swiss watchmaker, Ulysse Nardin, to launch the limited-edition, sustainably built Diver Norrøna Arctic Night Watch. Timed with the release, Ulysse Nardin announced its partnership with Norwegian polar explorer and Norrøna ambassador Børge Ousland.
The production run of 29 limited-edition watches will be sold with a Norrøna Arktis Gore-Tex Pro Jacket beginning November 2.
The development of the jacket started in 2005 with contributions from Børge Ousland, the Norwegian polar explorer. As part of the partnership with Ulysse Nardin, the limited-edition Arktis jacket displays the watchmaker’s logo.
“The collaboration with Ulysse Nardin has been an amazing opportunity for us to partner with a complementary brand that has the same shared love for nature, rich heritage and ambition for shifting to a more circular and sustainable business model,” said Norrøna CEO Jørgen Jørgensen. “Our brands are on important paths to building the most sustainable creations in our respective domains, and partnering with like-minded organizations is one fundamental way to amplify our message of improving the planet while still making best-in-class products.”
Norrøna noted the following sustainable features of the Diver Norrøna Arctic Night Watch:
- The side- and back cases are made of 40 percent Carbonium, which has a 40 percent lower environmental impact than other carbon composites, using the offcuts of aircraft parts and 60 percent recycled fishing nets called Nylo.
- The stainless-steel watch case is made of 80 percent recycled automotive materials;
- The watch bezel is made of 100 percent Carbonium;
- The wrist strap, with scratch closing, is made from 100 percent recycled fishing nets; and
- All components of the UN-118 automatic manufacture movement are sourced in Switzerland, almost all within a 30-kilometer radius of the manufacturing facility.
