Eastern Mountain Sports officially announced the Noreaster powered by Eastern Mountain Sports, the first festival in New England combining climbing, conservation efforts and music.
“The Noreaster is the perfect way to bring people who are into climbing, people who love music, and people who are concerned about the environment together for a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience,” said Will Manzer, president and CEO of Eastern Mountain Sports. “Our goal is to combine the fun of a music festival with the excitement of an elite climbing competition in a single outdoor venue that is left in better condition at the end of the event than it was at the beginning. Its going to open a lot of eyes.”
Eastern Mountain Sports Climbing School Professionals will be on hand for clinics, along with award-winning photographers and filmmakers Tim Kemple and Josh Lowell, who will conduct how-to video and film clinics on Saturday.
Conservation efforts at the Noreaster will flow throughout the event with the focus on keeping the event 90 percent waste free. The Noreaster Conservation Village will host organizations including the Conservation Alliance, Appalachian Mountain Club, New Hampshire Audubon, New Hampshire Fish and Game and White Mountain National Forest with Earth-friendly product demos and discussions on critical conservation issues. Bike powered generators and bio-degradable foodwares will be used, as well as shuttle buses running on sustainable fuel and locally grown food from local vendors available to participants.
Admission for the event is as follows: $20 Friday only; $40 Saturday only; $50 both days; and $175 for carpoolers with up to five passengers. Each ticket includes a three dollar “greening” surcharge with proceeds going to keeping the event 90 percent waste free. Parking, camping, clinics, product demos and children under 12 are free with admission.
