Performance outdoor footwear manufacturer Vasque split its rep of the year award for 2007 between Waypoint Outdoor Inc. of Seattle, WA, and Pacific Crest Trading Inc. of Big Bear Lake, CA.

Vasque normally honors only one rep, but split the “Vasque Rep of the Year Award” for 2007.

The award spotlights people behind the scenes at Vasque who help the company succeed. Winners are recognized for their commitment to Vasque sales and marketing as well as their willingness to “hit the floor running,” whether it’s at the many annual trade shows or on the trail at local and regional races.

“The decision is never easy,” says Vasque North American Sales Director Chris Speak. “And this year was particularly challenging. All of our reps are outstanding, and taken together they’re the prime reason for our incredible growth in 2007.”

In the end, says Speak, the decision to buck tradition and split the award between two groups was made by the senior management team at Vasque.

“I think it says something about Vasque’s reps in general,” says Speak. “We have so many good people out there putting everything they have behind the brand.”

The Waypoint Outdoor group, led by Jim Purdy and Bob Holding, was selected not only for their commitment to the brand, but also for the innovative and unique system they established for communicating with buyers. The group’s web site includes a dealer login page where companies like REI can submit product feedback, talk about re-order needs, and list future events.

The force behind Pacific Crest Trading is Dan Miller and Derek Torio. Also selected for their marketing savvy and dedication, they were a consistent presence at the many Vasque North American Trail Tour races in their region.

“We commend them for their grass-roots effort,” Speak said. “They were out at every race, rain or shine. They really proved that the people behind Vasque are the same people tackling the trails and wearing our shoes. They literally live their jobs. We’re fortunate to have them on board.”
