The USA Wheelchair Football League is launching in four cities across the United States: Chicago, Kansas City, Mo., Phoenix, and Los Angeles. As a part of this partnership, Xenith has donated Xenith X2E+ football helmets to each of the four founding teams of the league.
The first of its kind football league for adults with physical disabilities, the USA Wheelchair Football League is made possible in part by an NFL-BWF Salute to Service partnership to provide a ‘Healthy Lifestyles and Creating Community’ grant.
Wheelchair football is the newest team sport offered by Move United’s membership network, providing athletes with another avenue to fulfill their sports dreams. The League will kick off play in the Spring of 2021 with a calendar of clinics to introduce athletes across the country to the sport and a 10-week competitive season starting in the Fall.
Fans of the game will notice a few rule changes when the wheelchair football teams take the field, including a shorter field size (60 yards), a running game clock, and removal of special teams. These adaptations help athletes in the USA Wheelchair Football League provide all of the hard-hitting, fast-paced action football fans enjoy.
“We needed a helmet as rugged and resilient as our athletes, and we found that with Xenith,” said Glenn Merry, Move United executive director. “We are excited for Xenith to join our team, driving adaptive athletes to reach their full potential and redefine ability on the football field.”
“It is an honor to partner with the USA Wheelchair Football League and to help provide this group of exceptional athletes with helmets,” said Ryan Sullivan, Xenith CEO. “At Xenith, our mission is to elevate the athlete’s pursuit both on and off the field. Outfitting the USA Wheelchair Football League in our top-performing helmets could not be a better opportunity for us to do just that, and we look forward to working together for years to come.”
