Los Angeles, CA, July 7, 2020 – Today, LAMO, Southern California footwear brand, announced its decision to halt all ad spending on Facebook in support of the #stophateforprofit movement. LAMO will join other outdoor brands such as North Face, Patagonia and REI to address the effects that Facebook has had on the current society, with the on-going spread of hate and misinformation on the social platform. Until further notice, LAMO will discontinue Facebook ads until significant changes are made that address accountability, decency and support.
“As a brand, LAMO does not support or condone hate speech of any kind on our own platforms, and it is important for us to do what we can to hinder its presence and tolerance on global stages such as Facebook,” stated Mark Sweetser, marketing director of LAMO. “We feel that joining the #stophateforprofit movement is taking the first step to achieve widespread inclusivity and accountability.”
LAMO is set to pause Facebook spending in July and for as long as necessary until comprehensive changes are implemented. Ad spending will also be paused for all Facebook-owned companies such as Instagram. LAMO recognizes the importance of the recommended next steps stated by the Stop Hate for Profit campaign as indicated here, stophateforprofit.org/productrecommendations.
