The O'Neill family sold the international rights to its O'Neill apparel trademarks to Logo International B.V., a European fashion group. The deal, which is actually comprised of two separate transactions, gives Logo International B.V. the rights to manufacture and sell clothing and products worldwide under the O'Neill brand name.
The first deal involved the purchase of the worldwide rights to the ONeill brand and acquisition of the Australian subsidiary, ONeill Australia Pty Ltd, from ONeill, Inc., the business founded by Jack ONeill in 1952. The other deal saw Logo acquire the European licensee, ONeill Europe, which has been managing the brand there for over 28 years. ONeill Europe currently employs over 430 people. ONeill Europe has subsidiaries in Holland, Belgium, Germany and France and will soon open a new office in the Biarritz Area.
Under a separate agreement, the ONeill family will continue to own and operate the ONeill wetsuit business worldwide, the U.S. outerwear business and the ONeill Surf Shops located in Santa Cruz, California.
