Hanesbrands hired Joia M. Johnson to the position of executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective Jan. 29, 2007. Johnson joins Hanesbrands from RARE Hospitality International, Inc., a publicly traded restaurant franchise owner and operator based in Atlanta, where she was executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. She has more than 20 years of legal and business experience, including creation and development of corporate law departments and management oversight of real estate, construction, risk management and human resources.

Prior to joining RARE Hospitality, Johnson held law positions with H.J. Russell & Company, Concessions International, Inc. and the law firm Long, Aldridge & Norman, all in Atlanta. She continues to serve on the board of directors of H.J. Russell & Company and Concessions International.

Johnson earned her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, her master of business administration degree from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and her bachelor's degree from Duke University. She serves on several professional and civic boards, including the board of directors and executive committee of the American Arbitration Association.
