Nemo Equipment, designer of outdoor gear and accessories, has hired Tom Ceulemans as its European sales manager. Ceulemans, who has been representing Nemo over the last four years through Zopfi BV in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, will be based in Belgium. Nemo also announces the transition of leadership of international sales from Brent Merriam, COO, to Mike Welch, VP of global sales.
Nemo has been building momentum in the European markets over the last few years with its premium ultralight products and commitment to sustainability, carving a niche for the U.S. brand in the market. The new position and leadership transitions underscore Nemo’s commitment to growing its international distribution and supporting these markets.
“We’ve been experiencing great success in Europe, and we knew it was time to put boots on the ground to accelerate the pace,” Welch said. “For the last four years, Tom has been representing Nemo in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, building strong relationships with key accounts in those countries. His knowledge of the markets, passion for Nemo and authentic outdoor experiences make him a perfect fit for where Nemo is now and where we want to go.”
In this first international hire for Nemo, Ceulemans will be responsible for developing and implementing a European sales strategy that supports Nemo’s growth objectives, including establishing an appropriate European sales and distribution network. He’ll build and maintain relationships with European distributors, sales agencies, and key accounts to lead responsible but rapid growth of Nemo’s business in Europe. Tom will be looking for a qualified agency or distributor to expand and service the German and UK markets.
“It is been 5 years since I entered the booth at OutDoor and discovered Nemo. From my first steps on their floor, I felt some magic. The way they design, think, feel – it is just that simple little extra that makes me feel confident about their products,” says Ceulemans. “They truly run this company just to be part of your adventure. I am really proud to bring this spirit to Europe.”
On February 1, Merriam will transition responsibility for the European and international business to Mike Welch. The brand has doubled its international sales over the past year, showing there’s a market for well-designed, comfortable and fun to use gear for outdoor adventures worldwide.
