Weber State University’s (WSU) Hall Global Entrepreneurship Center has announced its second annual Outdoor Weber outdoor recreation idea competition, sponsored by Camping World.
Outdoor Weber is an idea-only business competition in Ogden, UT where participating students compete for a $45,000 grand cash prize. The competition is open to any qualified university student worldwide. The top ten finalists will be invited to the WSU campus in Ogden to work with a team of mentors and pitch their ideas to the final judges.
“I can’t wait for this year’s competition,” said Dave Mays, Weber Entrepreneurship Association president. “It is a fantastic opportunity for students to come together and express their creativity while gaining experience at the same time. If you are interested in the outdoors, this is a competition you want to be a part of,” said Mayes.
Applicants enter the competition by submitting a brief 90-second video to the Outdoor Weber website describing their product or service. The competition opens for submissions on Jan. 14 and closes on Jan. 30, 2019. The videos are then made available to the public for voting purposes for two weeks from Feb. 1 to Feb. 15, 2019. The top 25 vote getters will move to the semi-final round of competition. An additional 10 student ideas from the U.S. will be selected based on concept alone to move forward into the semis by a panel of judges across the country. The 35 semi-final videos be analyzed by a separate panel of judges who will select 10 finalists. The final competition will occur on March 20-23, 2019 in Ogden, Utah. Finalists attending the competition will be able to experience some of Utah’s culture including snowboarding and skiing and eating at local restaurants.
“My daughter Kat and I have a difficult time explaining to others how impactful and fantastic the event was. From start to finish, it was first-class and by far the finest we’ve experienced,” said Nicole Samardzija, mother of 2018 competition finalist.
