Oofos, the maker of recovery footwear, announced that for every pair of shoes sold on the company’s website—365 days a year—the Braintree, MA-based company donates 3 percent directly to breast cancer research.
For every pair sold from its Project Pink collection, a specially curated line for men and women featuring pink accents, Oofos donates $10 to finding a cure. To-date, Oofos has donated more than $130,000 to breast cancer research. Its goal is to reach 1 million dollars by 2020.
Giving back to breast cancer research wasn’t something the company sought out; rather the cause found it. In 2013, after a routine breast exam, Oofos Marketing Director Duncan Finigan was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer. Finigan’s mission to find a cure for this disease has extended to become the mission of Oofos.
An avid athlete and former marathoner—she’s run five—Finigan now focuses on events that give back directly to finding a cure.
“I’ve found myself completely outside of my comfort zone of running and participating in things like the Avon Walk to End Breast Cancer, the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk and the Pan-Mass Challenge,” she said. “There’s nothing I won’t do to help raise awareness and money in effort of finding a cure, and it means so much to have the support from my team at Oofos. It goes to show how every little bit helps.”
“Our mission at Oofos is to make you feel better and help you ‘recover faster,’” said Steve Gallo, president of Oofos. “Duncan is integral to our business and culture, and there is no better way to help her and the mission than to do our part in giving back.”
To demonstrate its year-long commitment to raising money for breast cancer research, Oofos is doubling its contribution from every pair of Oofos sold on its website to 6 percent between October 28 and November 3, 2018.
