Metolius Climbing has been chosen to receive the Access Fund's 2005 Sharp End Award in recognition of their efforts in climber advocacy.
Sharp End Awards are presented annually to individuals and organizations demonstrating remarkable leadership and commitment to preserving climbing access and the climbing environment. Metolius is recognized for its contributions of staff time, company resources, and financial support to
climber advocacy.
Over the last year, Metolius has devoted catalog pages to Access Fund
initiatives such as The Boulder Project as well as several other access and
conservation issues. Metolius has also provided direct involvement with
activist forums and has mentored boulderers in stewardship and conservation
through communication outreach on Metolius' products. In addition to their
hands-on involvement, Metolius has also generously offered financial support
of the Access Fund's advocacy work, underscoring the significance of all
their efforts.
“We're super stoked to receive this award from the Access Fund,” noted
Metolius Vice President Brooke Sandahl. “They're doing great work to keep
areas open for climbers and we¹re glad to be able to make any contribution
we can. Whether that be through staff manpower on the local level, or
getting the word out through our catalogs, we¹re just happy to play a role
in their efforts.”
In addition to their advocacy efforts, Metolius has built a solid reputation
as a leading designer and manufacturer of performance rock climbing
equipment. They are a company known for building cutting-edge climbing gear,
not building an image through self-promotion. Metolius equipment is born out
of respect for the sport they love, rock climbing, and the people who created
