Malden Mills announced that all existing styles of Polartec fabric have received the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certification and all new styles will be tested for approval on a rolling basis. Textiles that have been tested to the criteria of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 provide a guarantee that the textile does not contain any harmful substances that could pose a risk to human health. This stringent, independent certification covers the finished fabric product including all added applications such as durable water repellents, anti-microbial treatments and wicking agents in addition to the actual yarn fibers.
Malden Mills Product Marketing Manager Karen Beattie stated, “We felt it was important for Malden Mills to participate in the Oeko-Tex Certification process to support a uniform safety standard on harmful substances in textiles. We are very proud to meet and exceed their requirements. We have always been confident in the safety and quality of Polartec® fabrics and feel it is important to have an independent standard by which all clothing manufacturers and consumers can measure the safety of their products.”
The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is an initiative by independent textile test institutes. The founders were Vienna-based Austrian Textile Research Institute and the German Hohenstein Research Institute. Oeko-Tex tests are carried out continually and at random to ensure continued compliance.
