More than 70 volunteers from five member companies participated in The Conservation Alliance’s Backyard Collective stewardship event in Vancouver, British Columbia on Friday, June 22.
The volunteers worked in support of North Shore Mountain Biking Association to help rebuild and restore trails along the Bridle Path section of Seymour Mountain. The group worked along seven work sites, moved 750+ buckets of dirt and repaired 175 meters of trails.
Conservation Alliance member companies Arc’teryx, Helly Hansen, MEC, SAXX Underwear and Superfeet participated in the event. Member companies Clif Bar and Deschutes Brewery contributed snacks and beer to the event. Local companies Moja Coffee and Edge Catering contributed coffee and lunch.
The mission of The Conservation Alliance is to engage businesses to fund and partner with organizations to protect wild places for their habitat and recreation values. The Conservation Alliance launched the Backyard Collective Program to give member company employees in the outdoor industry the opportunity to work together on a local stewardship project while learning more about organizations that receive funding from the group.
Conservation Alliance Canadian grantee Raincoast Conservation Foundation joined in a Grantee Fair to share current information and call-to-action about their program.
“This was our second Backyard Collective event in Vancouver, and we are pleased with the turnout and the work the group completed,” said John Sterling, executive director of The Conservation Alliance. “Whether funding conservation projects, or coming together to steward the landscapes in their communities, our member companies consistently come together to make a difference.” The Backyard Collective will return to Vancouver in 2020, but the same companies can participate in 2019 when the program swings through Bellingham, WA.
