The Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) is joining forces with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) to lead the campaign for chairman of the President’s Council, on behalf of former Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker. Recently, President Donald Trump appointed Walker to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN), which is devoted to promoting healthy, active lifestyles in the United States.
“Herschel Walker would be the perfect choice to lead the President’s Council, as he is a natural and knowledgeable leader who speaks with authority on all aspects of sport, fitness, nutrition and active lifestyles,” said Tom Cove, SFIA CEO and president. “Most importantly, he is a passionate advocate with a proven commitment to work tirelessly to improve the health of all Americans, especially young people.”
Walker is currently the Honorary Chairman of SFIA’s annual National Health Through Fitness Day, an event focused on passing the PHIT (Personal Health Investment Today) Act and decreasing the cost barrier for Americans wanting to participate in health and fitness activities. He will return to Washington for the 19th annual event on March 7, 2018.
“As chair of the President’s Council, Herschel Walker would be a touchdown for all of America,” said Jim Whitehead, chief executive officer and executive vice president for the American College of Sports Medicine. “He is highly respected and perfectly suited for this critical role. Herschel has proven to be a passionate and dedicated leader for everything from military readiness to promoting active and healthy lives for youth and adults everywhere.”
In addition, his appreciation for the United States Military, government and law enforcement is made evident by his involvement with wounded soldiers, the annual Congressional Football Game and many other numerous related charities.
