The Bon-Ton Stores total sales for the four weeks ended May 28, 2005 decreased 6.5% to $89.0 million compared to $95.1 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 6.1%.

Year-to-date total sales decreased 2.4% to $351.5 million compared to $360.2 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 2.1%.

James H. Baireuther, Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer, commented, “May sales were disappointing, largely the result of unseasonably cool weather dampening the demand for seasonal goods, and continued adverse economic pressures. With the onset of more seasonable warmer weather, we expect the customer will show increased interest in spring/summer merchandise. Certain product categories did perform well, including fashion accessories, shoes, women's special size sportswear, ladies' better sportswear and soft home. We are monitoring inventory and receipts to rate of sales.”
