Sea Otter Classic announces the departure of its chief operations officer/chief marketing officer Rick Sutton. Sutton spent 13 years with Sea Otter Classic and leaves to become the vice president of retail sales at Specialized.
Rick Sutton said about his shift: “As I change my focus from helping cycling events grow to helping Specialized dealers grow, the Specialized president, Mike Sinyard, has provided me the time to smoothly transfer my knowledge and responsibilities, ensuring that Sea Otter and Cougar Mountain will continue to prosper. And I am confident that the transition will be smooth. Sea Otter is in great hands already: many in the organization are respected internationally for the work they have done at Sea Otter and other events, such as the Olympic Games. I may have been the most visible member of the band, but there is an entire orchestra of professionals ready to play music without me.”
Having poured his heart and soul into the Sea Otter Classic for over 13 years, Sutton does not intend to make a total break. He is expected to retain an advisory capacity of some description.
President and CEO of Sea Otter Classic, Frank Yohannan, wished Sutton well, stating, “I am excited for Rick, and wish him every success with his new opportunities and challenges. His talent and enthusiasm have left an indelible mark on Sea Otter. I am very appreciative for all the years of work and devotion Rick and his family have given to the Sea Otter Classic. They will always be a part of the Sea Otter family, and Ricks advice and counsel will always be welcome. A major part of Ricks legacy is the Sea Otter team we have built together. It is this team that will carry the event forward to greater growth and success.”
