Faraday Bicycles announced that the electric bike company is partnering with nonprofit One Tree Planted to help address the damage caused by wildfires this year across California.
In October 2017, at least 21 fires burned 245,000 acres throughout Napa, Lake, Sonoma, Mendocino, Butte, and Solano counties in Northern California. Combined with the ongoing fires in the Los Angeles area, it’s estimated that 2017 will be California’s costliest year for fire recovery in the state’s history.
California’s forests are essential to the state by providing clean air, water, tourism, timber and addressing the effects of climate change. To help support reforestation in the state, Faraday will be donating $100 from every bike sale to plant 100 trees across the state. The donations will be pooled via One Tree Planted to support Cal Fire, which administers assistance and replanting programs with the goal of improving the health and productivity of forest lands in California. A combination of California Redwood, Maple, Palm, Elderberry, Willow, Birch, Dogwood, Cedar, Giant Sequoia, and Walnut trees will be planted.
Adam Vollmer, CEO of Faraday Bikes, said “We make a product that helps people stay active, explore their community, and ride their bikes as much as possible. That’s all dependent on a healthy environment. We wanted to support this initiative to make sure California’s forests are thriving for years to come.” Faraday has partnered with One Tree Planted who is organizing a “Million Tree Challenge” to get 500 businesses to commit to planting 2,000 trees in the region. One Tree Planted estimates that 100 million trees will eventually need to be restored after the last few years of wildfires and drought in California.
