Axe Bat announced a partnership with All-Star outfielder George Springer.
Springer switched to an Axe Handle bat exclusively in August 2016. This year, Springer posted career-best totals for home runs (34), RBI (85), batting average (.283), slugging percentage (.522), and on-base plus slugging (.889).
His five home runs in the final seven-game series – including four in the last four games – earned Springer series MVP honors and secured Houston its first world title.
Springer joins Boston All-Star Mookie Betts on Axe Bat’s roster of Big League advisers. Like Betts, he will provide feedback on new Axe Handle designs and have input on the development process, including his own bat line.
“With the Axe Handle, I can swing harder with more barrel control,” Springer said. “The handle feels very natural, like it was made for my swing, and allows me to make better contact more often. I noticed the improvement immediately after I switched.”
Nearly 60 Big Leaguers have swung an Axe Handle bat in the regular season since 2015, including some of the biggest names in the game.
“George Springer represents so much of what is right with today’s game,” said Jay Helmick, senior vice president of Axe Bat. “He has a passion for the game that’s infectious, his courage is admirable, and his performance speaks for itself. We’re delighted to have him on our team and are looking forward to working with him on and off the field for years to come.”
