Pittsburgh topped WalletHub’s annual ranking of the best cities for football fans for the second year in a row.
The ranking considered 21 metrics, awarding points for things including past championships, ticket prices and social media engagement.
Pittsburgh finished with the top score (63.11 points) rather easily, beating out Boston, MA (56.15), Dallas, TX (53.44), Green Bay, WI (53.22), and New York, NY (48.38.) Rounding out the Top 10 were New Orleans, LA (47.8), Miami, FL, (46.63), San Francisco, CA (45.64), Philadelphia, PA (43.26), and Oakland, CA (42.59).
From 11 to 25 were Indianapolis, IN, Seattle, WA, Buffalo, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Denver, CO, Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, MN, Glendale, AZ, Baltimore, MD, Atlanta, GA, Kansas City, MO, Cincinnati, OH, Charlotte, NC, Nashville, TN, and Tampa, FL.
The survey had a “Pro Football Rank” and “College Football Rank” to explore how each city’s fans supported their local professional and college teams. Pittsburgh had the highest Pro Football Rank and was number 14 in the College Football Rank. Clemson, SC earned the top College Football Rank.
WalletHub compared 245 U.S. cities based on 21 metrics, which included aspects such as past championships, coach turnover, franchise value, ticket prices, attendance, stadium capacity, social media engagement, and fan engagement.
The Top 5 cities with the most engaged NFL fans tied for first were Green Bay, WI and Pittsburgh, PA followed by Boston, MA, New Orleans, LA and Oakland, CA. New York, NY led the Top 5 cities with the least-engaged fans followed by Los Angeles, CA, Jacksonville, FL, Houston, TX, and Chicago, IL.
The Top 5 cities with the most engaged college football fans tied for first were Clemson, SC and State College, PA followed by Tuscaloosa, AL, Ann Arbor, MI and Morgantown, WV. The Top 5 cities with the least-engaged college football fans were Baltimore, MD, New York, NY, Jacksonville, FL, Jackson, MS, and San Jose, CA.
