Snow Peak USA said construction on the Snow Peak USA flagship and headquarters, located at 404 NW 23rd Avenue, began in October and will continue through early 2020.
The retail space offers two levels to showcase the brand’s entire line of outdoor equipment and gear with the U.S. headquarters on the upper floor. Customers will be able to try equipment with demos and interactive camp exhibits.
The store is based on the concept of dwelling outside. Nature is translated indoors through the use of dark wood floors, live plants and open, natural light-filled spaces. Honor is paid to Snow Peak’s heritage in both Japan and Portland using traditional Japanese timber framing on the walls, milled from century-old Douglas Fir beams reclaimed from a Portland-area warehouse. Artwork and installations from Pacific Northwest designers and artists, Tireman Studio and Portland Garment Factory were commissioned to enliven the space. The ground floor houses a restaurant and bar using an open hearth/open kitchen concept with seating indoor and out. The 1800-square-foot patio includes open multi-purpose space for fire pits and camp chairs.
“Snow Peak’s new space on NW 23rd is more than a retail store. It’s a community space for people to gather, enjoy a drink and share a meal, play with our products or simply relax by a fire. We’re creating a hands-on, indoor/outdoor space that truly encapsulates the Snow Peak experience,” said Matt Liddle, chief operating officer, Snow Peak USA.
Snow Peak also plans to celebrate its 20th anniversary in the U.S. with an offer of 20-percent off on all merchandise purchased in-store or online between November 1 and 10. “Thank you” gatherings for customers at the Portland and New York City Soho stores will run simultaneously to celebrate the brand’s legacy with historical exhibits and a look forward.
