in celebration of Earth Day, Zappos and Newton Running is helping give children access to Learning Gardens in their schools by selling a specially designed shoe that will support The Kitchen Community non-profit organization. The Learning Garden Shoe by Newton Running is now being sold exclusively on Zappos.com.

The Kitchen Community is a national 501c3 nonprofit that builds Learning Gardens in schools with the mission of community through food. Learning Gardens combine edible schoolyards, food education and an outdoor classroom into one beautiful space.

For every pair of Learning Garden Shoes sold, Newton Running will fund one child's access to a Learning Garden in his or her school. The Learning Garden Shoe is bright, colorful and designed to reflect Learning Garden beds, which are modular and curvilinear. Signatures from The Kitchen Community Co-Founders, Hugo Matheson and Kimbal Musk are featured on the inside of the shoe.

“Zappos and Newton Running are two extremely conscious companies that are focused on building a healthier future for their communities,” said Kimbal Musk, CEO and co-founder of The Kitchen Community. “Together with Zappos and Newton Running, we hope to raise enough money this Earth Day to fund 1500 children, giving them access to a Learning Garden in their local school.”

“As a certified B Corporation, we are committed to a higher level of accountability and to partnering with organizations that strive to make the world a better, more sustainable place,” said Craig Heisner, president of Newton Running. “We created the Learning Garden Shoe for The Kitchen Community because we believe in its mission to create a future where youth has the opportunity to play, learn and grow in healthy communities.”

The Learning Garden Shoe by Newton Running is available in both Men’s and Women’s styles and sizes, retailing for $110 each. All proceeds from the Learning Garden Shoe will go directly to giving children a Learning Garden in their school and neither Zappos nor Newton Running will retain any profits from this charitable endeavor. The Learning Garden Shoe can be purchased now on Zappos.com and will launch later this month on NewtonRunning.com.  The Learning Garden Shoe will be available while supply lasts.
