W.L. Gore & Associates announced it has partnered with US Ski Mountaineering Association (USSMA) and Utah Ski Mountaineering to bring a ski mountaineering race to Solitude Mountain Resort during the All Mountain Demo on the eve of Outdoor Retailer Winter Market.

“Our support for SkiMo racing goes back several years,” said Tom Boyle of Gore Strategic Marketing. “As the sport is growing in popularity, we worked together with OR, USSMA and the Utah SkiMo teams to bring the event to the All Mountain Demo so that more of our outdoor community could experience it first hand. We’re looking forward to a fun race experience that will raise funds and awareness for the USSMA.”

The 2014 Gore-Tex Wasatch Ski Mountaineering Race will take place Jan. 21 while the All Mountain Demo is being held at Solitude Mountain Resort. The race will support the USSMA and is open to anyone over 18 and any ability level. The race will begin at 2:00 pm at the base of the Moonbeam Parking Lot at Solitude and will feature short and long course options, as well as race or recreation categories. Registration is currently open on the events page at www.ussma.org.

USSMA sanctions and governs competitive ski mountaineering racing in the United States and works to promote and foster recreational ski mountaineering through access, resources, education and community.
