A part of the Winter Feels Good Initiative, Winter Trails is organized through a partnership between SIA, the Cross Country Ski Areas Association (CCSAA) and the American Hiking Society (AHS).

Offerings at Winter Trails events vary but all locations allow for a trial of snowshoeing or cross country skiing or both. Some events feature guided tours, igloo building demonstrations and clinics on how to dress for snow sports and winter camping and hiking.
