Colonial Sports, a Williamsburg, VA-based specialty running store with some team sports coverage, has been acquired by local runners David and Jessica Anderson. Jim and Geri Elder, the former owners who operated the store for the last 32 years, retain ownership of the screen printing and embroidery side of the business.

The Andersons, on July 15, held a soft opening for a separate store, Colonial Athletics Co., at 1302 Mount Vernon Avenue in Williamsburg, VA, with a grand opening planned for early August.

According to a social media post by the Elders, all customer records for Colonial Sports, located at 1,303 Jamestown Road, have been transferred to Colonial Athletics. Under the new ownership, the Colonial Sports location will no longer carry sports equipment supporting soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and volleyball. The store will continue to carry 10 Second Arch supports and select socks with clearance sales for all items except 10 Second Arch supports and select socks beginning on July 16.

The Elders will continue to operate the screen printing and embroidery operation from the location to support team uniform needs. They will  also continue to oversee the race management business of Colonial Sports.

The Elders concluded in their post, “It was a privilege to serve the citizens of the Greater Williamsburg community with their footwear needs for the past 32 years. Thank you for your support!”
