West Marine, Inc. reported that net sales for the four weeks ended October 25, 2003 were $36.7 million, a 27.4% increase from net sales of $28.9 million for the same period a year ago. Comparable store net sales for the four weeks ended October 25, 2003 increased 2.3% from the same period a year ago. Sales from 62 BoatU.S. stores acquired in January 2003 from Boat America are included in total sales, but are not reflected in comparable store sales statistics.

Net sales for the forty-three weeks ended October 25, 2003 were $572.8 million, an increase of 22.7% from net sales of $466.8 million for the same period a year ago. Comparable store net sales for the latest forty-three weeks decreased 3.2% compared to the same period a year ago.

John Edmondson, CEO of West Marine, said, “We are pleased with October sales results. They were in line with our expectations. Comparable store sales by region were: Southeast (including Mid-Atlantic) 3.0%, Northeast 3.0% and West Coast 0.6%.”
